Clementi not only dedicated himself to the piano as a virtuoso and composer but also as a teacher, music publisher and instrument maker – so it is no wonder that he was referred to as the “Father of the Piano Forte” at the time.
Chopin’s Nocturne in E flat major op. 9 no. 2 belongs without a doubt among the most beloved works of this genre, and perhaps even of Chopin’s entire oeuvre. Echoing the operatic style, the sensual bel canto melody weaves arabesques of tones that become more ornamented with each repetition. The piece is so irresistible that it has spawned many arrangements.
Time and again, Chopin succeeded in giving different piano music genres their own individual characters, whether etudes, preludes, waltzes, scherzi or nocturnes.
This collection of Mazurkas features all 57 of the Polish virtuoso pianist’s works written in this genre for the solo Piano.
An authoritative urtext edition of Chopin's Piano Etudes Op.10 and Op.25, including the Drei Etuden KK IIb No.3, edited by Ewald Zimmermann.
This new volume presents 57 mazurkas and 16 polonaises, standard 19th-century Piano repertoire, at a value price. Both the mazurkas and polonaises were originally Polish folk dances with a basic rhythm of 3/4. Chopin was the master composer of these dances for Piano.
Clementi's Sonatinas are published as part of ABRSM's 'Signature' Series - a series of authoritative performing editions of standard keyboard works, prepared from original sources by leading scholars. Includes informative introductions and performance notes. Opus 4 was previously referred to as Opus 37 Nos. 2, 1 & 3 and Opus 38 Nos. 1, 2 & 3.
